Plumber in Cockatoo Valley

and Sandy Creek · next door to Williamstown

Cockatoo Valley and Sandy Creek are the next stops west of our Williamstown base. Craig looks after the lifestyle blocks and homes out here, which mostly look after their own water and wastewater.

Cockatoo Valley

About 10 to 15 minutes from base

Cockatoo Valley sits between Williamstown and Gawler, around 10 km from our base. It’s an area of lifestyle blocks and rural homes, where the house usually has its own septic system and often its own tank and pump.

That makes it one of the closest areas to our base, along with Lyndoch.

Sandy Creek

On the way to Lyndoch and Gawler

Sandy Creek is a little further on, about 11 km from Williamstown, east of Gawler on the way to Lyndoch, with the Sandy Creek Conservation Park nearby.

The calls are much the same as next door: tank water, septic, hot water and the everyday leaks and blockages.

A lifestyle block runs on its own plumbing

The Barossa Council’s community wastewater schemes cover the bigger townships, like Williamstown, Lyndoch and Tanunda. Cockatoo Valley and Sandy Creek aren’t on that list, so properties here generally have their own onsite system, either a conventional septic tank or an aerobic unit.

On many blocks the water supply is the same story: off the roof, into the tank and through a pressure pump to the house. When any one part of that chain fails, the house stops.

  • Rainwater tanks supplied, connected and swapped over.
  • Pressure pumps repaired or replaced, sized to the house.
  • Filters and UV for drinking water.
  • Septic and aerobic systems repaired, replaced or newly installed.

Putting in a new septic system

Building, extending or replacing a failed system? In The Barossa Council area, a new onsite wastewater system needs council approval before it goes in. Craig coordinates that side of the job.

  1. Look at the block

Craig checks the house, the land and the old system, if there is one, and talks through septic or aerobic options.

  2. Design and approval

The design and the council application are organised before any digging starts.

  3. Install

The tank goes in, the house is connected and the dispersal side is laid, as approved.

  4. Look after it

The council recommends desludging a septic tank at least every four years. We don’t do pump-outs, but Craig fixes the plumbing around the tank.

When the water stops on a lifestyle block

On a tank-fed house, a pump that dies at night or over a weekend leaves you without a shower, a toilet or a kitchen tap. That counts as an emergency, so ring Craig on 0499 319 297 any time.

Before you ring, check the pump has power and the circuit hasn’t tripped, and check there is water in the tank. If both are fine, Craig can talk you through what to look at while he’s on the way, and he’ll get the water running again with a repair or a new pump.

Questions from the blocks

Do you cover Cockatoo Valley and Sandy Creek?

Yes. Both are about 10 to 15 minutes from our base in Williamstown SA 5351, so they’re some of the closest areas we cover.

Are Cockatoo Valley and Sandy Creek on a CWMS?

They’re not on The Barossa Council’s CWMS list, which covers the larger townships. Properties here generally have their own septic or aerobic system.

Can you install a new septic or aerobic system?

Yes. Craig installs new onsite systems and replaces old ones, and coordinates the design and the council approval.

The house has lost water pressure. Is it the pump?

Often, but not always. A blocked filter or a problem in the line from the tank can do the same thing. Craig checks which it is before replacing anything.

Do you do hot water and gas out here?

Yes. Gas, electric, heat pump and solar hot water, plus LPG cooktops, heaters and gas lines under licence PGE341299.

Can you come out on a weekend?

For emergencies, yes, 24/7 on 0499 319 297. Everyday jobs can be booked in through the week.
