Plumber in Kapunda

Historic copper town · Light Regional

Kapunda grew up around one of Australia’s earliest copper mines, and it’s still full of old stone. Craig is the licensed plumber and gas fitter for the township and the farms around it, from tired pipework to septic, tanks and hot water.

Old stone, old pipes

Copper was found at Kapunda in 1842 and mining started in 1844, and the town grew up around the mine with Cornish miners and stone cottages. The Heritage Trail and the Big Miner statue at the town entrance still tell that story.

A lot of those old buildings are still lived in, and that’s where the plumbing gets interesting. Old galvanised water pipe rusts from the inside, earthenware and clay sewer lines let roots in at the joints, and running new pipe through thick stone walls takes planning.

Craig replaces the pipe that’s past saving, clears the drains with the jetter and uses the drain camera to see what’s going on underground before anything is dug up.

Septic, CWMS and sewer in Kapunda

Kapunda is one of the five Light Regional Council townships with a Community Wastewater Management System. Most houses in town have a septic tank on the block that drains to the council network, and one section of town uses sewer connections instead.

On the CWMS

Tank on the block, council network beyond
  • Blocked lines between the house and the tank, jetted clear.
  • Cracked or root-filled pipe found with the camera and replaced.
  • Tank fittings and lids repaired, and failed tanks replaced.
  • Pump-outs are booked by council every four years. We don’t do pump-outs.

Out of town

Farms and rural blocks
  • Septic systems repaired, replaced and newly installed, with the excavation done by trusted local contractors.
  • Rainwater tanks supplied and connected, with pressure pumps, filters and UV.
  • Irrigation and water lines run, repaired and replaced.
  • LPG cooktops, heaters and hot water.

“I put out an urgent plumber recommendation for blocked drains on our local Barossa Valley FB page this morning and Craig’s name came up quite a few times. Craig was able to do the job this afternoon”

Water on Kapunda farms

Out of town, the house, the shed and the garden often run off rainwater, with a pressure pump between the tank and the taps. Craig supplies and connects new tanks, replaces pumps that have given up, and fits filters and UV for drinking water.

He also runs new water and irrigation lines and repairs the ones that have split or been dug through. See rainwater tanks and pumps and irrigation lines for the details.

Kapunda questions

Do you come out to Kapunda?

Yes. Kapunda is about 40 to 45 minutes from our base in Williamstown SA 5351, around 42 km by road, and the township and the farms around it are covered.

Is Kapunda on sewer or septic?

Most of Kapunda is on Light Regional Council’s CWMS, so houses drain to a septic tank that connects to the council network. One section uses sewer connections, and farms have their own onsite systems.

Can you replace old galvanised pipe in a stone house?

Yes. Craig plans the new route with you first, so the run through thick walls and under old floors disturbs as little as possible.

Do you pump out septic tanks?

No, we don’t have a pump-out truck. Council books CWMS pump-outs. Craig repairs and replaces tanks, pipes and fittings, and installs new systems.

Can you install a new septic system on a farm?

Yes. We manage the whole job, working with trusted local contractors for the excavation, and coordinate the design and council approval.

What if something breaks after hours?

Ring 0499 319 297. Burst pipes, sewage backing up, gas smells and no hot water are treated as emergencies, 24/7.
