CCTV drain inspections Barossa Valley & Gawler

Blocked drain clearing and drain camera inspections

Recurring blocked drains, slow drainage or sewage smells you can’t explain? Craig clears the blockage, puts a specialist drain camera down the line to find the cause, and explains what further work is needed.

What is a CCTV drain inspection?

A camera is fed through an accessible drain to view its internal condition. The live footage helps us investigate blockages, visible damage and other problems that are hard to assess from above ground.

It can narrow down the cause of a drainage issue and show whether cleaning, further investigation or repair is needed. Where there’s suitable access, it also lets us check sections of pipe without digging them up first.

Craig brings 10 years of local plumbing experience to homes and businesses across the Barossa, Gawler and surrounding towns. He investigates the accessible underground drainage, explains what he finds and recommends practical next steps.

What can a drain camera identify?

  • Tree root intrusion Roots get in through cracks, damaged sections and defective joints, then catch waste and cause repeat blockages. The camera helps find visible entry points. Clearing the roots may restore flow, while damaged pipe may need repair to fix the underlying problem.
  • Cracked, broken or collapsed pipes Damaged drains restrict flow, collect debris or let surrounding material in. The camera shows visible defects and helps guide the repair. A fully collapsed section may stop the camera going further, so more access or excavation may be needed.
  • Displaced joints Pipe sections that have moved out of line leave an edge inside the pipe that catches paper and waste. The footage helps find these joints and shows how they’re affecting the drain.
  • Grease, soap and waste build-up Kitchen, bathroom and laundry drains collect deposits that narrow the pipe. A camera inspection helps assess visible build-up and whether more cleaning is needed.
  • Foreign objects and obstructions Wipes, sanitary products and other objects get lodged in drains. Where visibility and access allow, the camera helps find the obstruction and guide its removal.
  • Standing water Water sitting in a drain may point to a low section, a restriction further down or another drainage problem. Footage highlights areas to investigate, though it doesn’t accurately measure pipe grade on its own.

When should you book a CCTV drain inspection?

  • The same drain keeps blocking.
  • Toilets, sinks or showers drain slowly.
  • Several fixtures are affected at the same time.
  • You hear persistent gurgling from the drains.
  • Sewage backs up into fixtures or overflows outside.
  • A blockage comes back soon after being cleared.
  • You suspect tree roots or damaged underground pipe.
  • You want to check accessible existing drains before renovating.

These symptoms can have several causes. Craig will assess the situation and tell you whether a camera inspection is the right next step.

CCTV inspections and hydro jet drain cleaning

The two often work together. If a drain is heavily blocked or full of dirty water, the camera can’t get a clear view, so clearing it first makes for a more useful inspection. Depending on the drain, we may:

  1. Assess

Look at the blockage and the available access.

  2. Clear

Use hydro jet cleaning where appropriate to restore flow.

  3. Inspect

Run the CCTV camera through the accessible pipework.

  4. Explain

Show you any visible defects or remaining obstructions.

  5. Recommend

Further cleaning, monitoring or repair, whichever suits.

That tells you whether the blockage came from built-up waste or an underlying pipe defect. More on hydro jetting.

Recurring blockages, older homes and rural drains

Drains that keep blocking

Find out why

Clearing the same drain again and again gets costly. A CCTV inspection may show root intrusion, damaged joints, a broken section or deposits left in the line. Knowing the cause helps you decide on a suitable repair.

Craig gives straightforward advice on what the inspection shows, what’s still uncertain and which options are worth considering.

Established homes and rural properties

Every layout is different

Properties across the Barossa have a wide range of drain layouts, pipe materials and ages. Older homes may have drains altered over the years, and rural blocks can have long runs between buildings and septic tanks.

Established trees, past building work and limited access all affect how an inspection is done, so we assess the access and layout first.

Septic and stormwater drain camera inspections

  • Septic drainage On septic properties, a camera can check the accessible drain between the building and the tank for blockages, roots or visible pipe damage. It helps show whether the problem is in the connecting drain or needs further investigation of the wastewater system. It doesn’t replace a septic tank assessment or an engineering assessment of the treatment and effluent disposal system. See septic repairs.
  • Stormwater drains Where pipe size, access and conditions allow, the camera can check underground stormwater lines for roots, debris, damaged sections or obstructions. We check first whether the line is accessible and whether it needs cleaning for a clear view. More on stormwater problems.

What to expect from your inspection

  1. A chat first

We ask about the symptoms, past blockages and any drain work already done.

  2. Access checked

We find suitable inspection openings and work out how much can reasonably be inspected.

  3. Cleaning if needed

If an obstruction or dirty water blocks the view, we explain the cleaning required.

  4. The camera inspection

We check the accessible sections for obstructions and pipe condition.

  5. A clear explanation

Craig explains the findings in plain language and talks through the next steps.

What affects the cost of a CCTV drain inspection?

  • The location and accessibility of the drain.
  • The length of pipe to inspect.
  • Whether a blockage needs clearing first.
  • How many drain branches are involved.
  • The condition of the pipework.
  • Whether further access or investigation is needed.

We explain the proposed work and pricing before going ahead. If the inspection shows more work is needed, we talk through the options with you.

CCTV drain inspection questions

What is a CCTV drain inspection?

A camera is fed through an accessible drain to view its internal condition. The live footage helps investigate blockages, visible damage and other problems that are hard to assess from above ground, and where access allows it checks sections of pipe without digging them up first.

What can a drain camera find?

Tree root intrusion, cracked, broken or collapsed pipes, displaced joints, grease, soap and waste build-up, foreign objects such as wipes, and standing water that may point to a low section or a restriction further down.

Do you clear the drain before the camera goes in?

Where it’s needed. If a drain is heavily blocked or full of dirty water the camera can’t get a clear view, so we may use hydro jet cleaning first to restore flow, then inspect the accessible pipework.

Can a camera inspection measure the fall of my drain?

Not on its own. Camera footage can highlight standing water and areas that need further investigation, but it doesn’t give an accurate measurement of pipe grade.

Can you inspect the drain to my septic tank?

Yes. A camera can check the accessible drainage between the building and the septic tank for blockages, roots or visible damage. It doesn’t replace a septic tank assessment or an engineering assessment of the treatment and disposal system.

Do you inspect stormwater drains?

Yes, where the pipe size, access and conditions allow. We check first whether the line is accessible and whether it needs cleaning to get a clear view.

How much does a CCTV drain inspection cost?

It depends on the drain’s location and access, the length of pipe, whether a blockage needs clearing first, how many branches are involved and the pipe’s condition. We explain the proposed work and pricing before going ahead.
